I watched it when it first aired. The concept had potential, especially with The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp leading. But the e*******n? Not so much. The plot felt disjointed, and some scenes seemed provocative just for the sake of it

Agreed. I remember reading that the show faced criticism for its explicit content and was even canceled after one season.

It’s interesting how ‘The Idol’ tried to delve into the dark side of the music industry. But instead of offering insightful commentary, it felt more like a shallow portrayal filled with cliches.

Exactly! And considering The Weeknd’s deep involvement, I expected a more authentic depiction.

I read that The Weeknd acknowledged the criticism and mentioned that the story “could have been told in a different way”

I tried watching the first episode but couldn’t get through it. The pacing was off, and it didn’t hold my attention.

I pushed through the entire season, hoping it would improve. Sadly, it didn’t. It’s rare for me to say this, but I was relieved when HBO announced its cancellation.

It’s a shame because the cast had talent. Lily-Rose Depp defended the show’s creator, Sam Levinson, despite the backlash.
